Donna Mazyck
Hello Parents and Guardians,
As classes resume, I am reminded of how differently my children and I viewed the beginning of a new school year. They talked about friends, clothes and weekend plans, while I focused my attention on promoting their safety and well-being throughout the year: Are their immunizations current? Do they know what to do in the event of an emergency? Will their after-school plans keep them out of mischief?
Now is a great time to talk with your child about the risks of alcohol and other drug use. Using the resources on TimetoTalk.org is an excellent way to prepare for these important conversations. These free, easy-to-use, research-based tools and tips will help you and your child to have ongoing conversations. Also, remember to speak with the school nurse about any health concerns that may affect your child
Sincerely,
Donna Mazyck

First-Time Users Trying New Things
Although the number of first-time marijuana users has declined significantly from nearly 3 million in 2000 to slightly more than 2 million in 2006, there has been an increase in the number of first-time Ecstasy users as well as nonmedical users of prescription medicines.
